Missoula Ice Age Floods Simulator (“the app”) is an educational geology app published by Nature Tools (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what data the app does and does not handle. Plain version: we do not require an account, we do not ask for your location, and we do not sell your data.
Information the app collects directly
None that identifies you. The app has no sign-in, no account, and asks for no personal information. The only Android permission it uses is Internet access, which is needed to download map tiles.
Your in-app preferences and saved items — measurement units, playback speed, 3D/terrain settings, and your bookmarked lake levels and evidence sites — are stored only on your device (Android DataStore). They are never transmitted to us and are removed if you clear the app’s data or uninstall it.
Information collected by third-party services
The app relies on the following third-party services, which may collect data under their own privacy policies:
- Mapbox (interactive base map). The Mapbox Maps SDK collects anonymized usage and diagnostic telemetry — such as map-interaction events, device model, operating-system version, and a mobile advertising/usage identifier — to operate and improve its mapping services. The app does not grant or use device location, so Mapbox does not receive your GPS location through this app. See the Mapbox Privacy Policy: https://www.mapbox.com/legal/privacy
- USGS National Map (optional USGS Topo / Satellite base maps). When you select a USGS basemap, your device requests map tiles from U.S. Geological Survey servers; like any web request, this includes your IP address. USGS is a U.S. federal public-domain service. - Google Play (app distribution and the in-app review prompt). Handled by Google under the Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
We do not use any advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or social SDKs.
How information is used
Local preferences are used only to remember your settings on your device. Third-party telemetry (Mapbox) is used by that provider to operate and improve its mapping service. We do not receive, store, or sell personal data, and we do not use your data for advertising.
Data sharing and selling
We do not sell your personal data. The only data leaving your device goes to the map providers above, solely to render maps and operate their SDKs.
Security
All network communication uses encrypted connections (HTTPS).
Children
The app is an educational tool suitable for general audiences. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
You can remove all locally stored preferences and bookmarks at any time by clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling it. You can manage your advertising identifier in your Android system settings.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above and in the app’s store listing.
