Privacy Policy

How Place handles location, saved places, routes, device information, reports, and account data.

Last updated: July 2, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Nature Tools, LLC (“Nature Tools,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with Place, including the Place mobile application, related subscriptions, support, downloads, reports, and web services.

Place is built around a simple principle: collect only what is needed, keep as much information on your device as practical, and do not sell your personal information.

1. Information Place May Process

The information Place processes depends on the features you choose to use.

Location and geospatial information

  • current or selected GPS coordinates;
  • saved places, map pins, regions, and search locations;
  • imported or recorded routes;
  • elevation, slope, aspect, terrain, watershed, geology, habitat, weather, fire, land-status, and other place-derived context;
  • location queries sent to mapping, terrain, weather, geology, hydrology, land, ecology, or related data services; and
  • location metadata contained in photographs or files you choose to import.

Precise location can be sensitive. It may reveal where you live, travel, recreate, conduct research, access private land, or observe sensitive species.

Device and sensor information

  • device type and operating-system version;
  • app version and installation status;
  • location permission status;
  • heading, orientation, camera, elevation, or motion information when required by a feature;
  • crash logs, error reports, and performance diagnostics; and
  • network information needed to connect to Place services and third-party providers.

Saved content and field information

  • saved locations and reports;
  • notes, labels, collections, and preferences;
  • imported route or geospatial files;
  • photographs, screenshots, or attachments you choose to use with Place;
  • generated reports and exported files; and
  • activity or suitability selections you save.

Account, purchase, and subscription information

  • name and email address;
  • account or user identifier;
  • subscription plan and entitlement status;
  • purchase, renewal, cancellation, or refund status;
  • transaction identifiers supplied by an app store or payment provider; and
  • support and communication history.

Nature Tools does not intentionally collect or store full payment-card numbers. Payments are handled by the applicable app store, payment processor, or subscription provider.

2. How Place Uses Information

Place uses information to:

  • show maps and location-aware reports;
  • resolve terrain, geology, hydrology, ecology, land status, weather, air, light, astronomy, and recreation context;
  • save places, routes, reports, and user preferences;
  • generate exports, summaries, and field documentation;
  • verify subscriptions and product access;
  • provide customer support;
  • diagnose crashes, errors, and performance problems;
  • maintain security and prevent abuse; and
  • comply with legal obligations.

3. Location Permissions

Place requests location access only when a feature needs it. Depending on your device and settings, this may include location while using the app, precise location, or access to coordinates embedded in imported media.

You can change location permissions in your device settings. Some Place features will not work correctly without location access.

4. On-Device Storage

Where practical, Place stores saved places, preferences, downloaded data, reports, and other working information locally on your device. Information stored locally may remain until you delete it, remove it within the app, uninstall Place, or erase the device.

If Place offers optional cloud backup, account sync, or cross-device access, those features will be identified separately and may involve storage by a platform or service provider.

5. Third-Party Data Providers

Place may send a selected location, bounding area, route, timestamp, or related query to third-party providers in order to retrieve maps, weather, terrain, hydrology, geology, ecology, land, recreation, air-quality, astronomy, and other contextual information.

These providers receive only the information needed to complete the requested lookup, but their own privacy policies, terms, logging practices, and retention rules apply.

6. Reports, Exports, and Sharing

When you export or share a report, map, route, image, screenshot, or saved place, the exported file may contain precise coordinates and other sensitive information.

You are responsible for reviewing exported content before sharing it. Once information is sent to another person, app, platform, or service, that recipient’s own privacy practices apply.

7. Sensitive Locations

Place may be used around private property, sensitive species, cultural sites, research locations, hunting areas, fishing locations, remote routes, or other sensitive places.

Use caution before saving, exporting, or publishing precise coordinates. Nature Tools is not responsible for information you choose to disclose publicly or to third-party services.

8. Analytics and Diagnostics

Place may collect limited technical diagnostics needed to understand crashes, errors, installation problems, feature reliability, and performance. This may include app version, operating-system version, device type, error details, and diagnostic events.

Nature Tools does not use personal information for cross-site targeted advertising and does not sell personal information.

9. Support Communications

If you contact Nature Tools for support, we may receive your name, email address, message, screenshots, attachments, logs, device details, subscription information, and any other information you choose to provide.

Do not send unnecessary sensitive location, personal, or financial information in a support request.

10. How Information May Be Disclosed

Nature Tools may disclose information:

  • to service providers that operate hosting, email, support, payments, subscriptions, security, analytics, maps, weather, terrain, geology, hydrology, ecology, or related services;
  • to an app store or payment platform when needed to process purchases and subscriptions;
  • to a third-party service you choose to use or share information with;
  • when required by law or a valid legal process;
  • to protect rights, safety, security, users, or the public; or
  • as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets.

Nature Tools does not sell personal information and does not use personal information for targeted advertising.

11. Data Retention

Retention depends on the type of information and how Place is used:

  • local app data may remain until deleted or the app is uninstalled;
  • account and subscription records may remain while the account or subscription is active and for a reasonable period afterward;
  • transaction records may be retained for accounting, tax, refund, fraud-prevention, and legal purposes;
  • support records may be retained to resolve issues and maintain business records;
  • diagnostic data may be retained for a limited period needed to investigate reliability or security; and
  • exported or shared information may remain with the service or recipient you selected.

12. Security

Nature Tools uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorized access, misuse, loss, alteration, or disclosure.

No system is perfectly secure. You are responsible for protecting your device, account credentials, exported files, and any precise-location information you save or share.

13. Your Choices

You may be able to:

  • disable or limit location permissions;
  • choose approximate rather than precise location where supported;
  • delete saved places, routes, reports, or local app data;
  • remove location metadata from files before importing them;
  • avoid exporting or sharing precise coordinates;
  • cancel subscriptions through the platform where they were purchased;
  • disconnect optional integrations; and
  • contact Nature Tools with an access, correction, deletion, or privacy request.

14. Children

Place is not directed to children under 13, and Nature Tools does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate consent.

15. U.S. State Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live and whether applicable law applies, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, or to appeal a decision concerning a privacy request.

Because Nature Tools does not sell personal information and does not use personal information for targeted advertising, some statutory opt-out rights may not apply to current Place practices.

16. International Use

Nature Tools is based in the United States. If you use Place from another country, information may be processed in the United States or in other countries where service providers operate.

17. Changes to This Policy

Nature Tools may update this Privacy Policy as Place changes. The revised policy becomes effective when posted or on a later date stated in the notice.
