Geology-first field awareness

Bedrock turns the public scientific record into a field companion you can hold in one hand. Tap any place on the map and Bedrock pulls together the bedrock unit beneath you, its age and lithology, stratigraphic context, hazards, hydrology, fossils, faults, volcanoes, minerals, glaciation, terrain, and a plain-English narrative.

It is built for working geologists, students, naturalists, and the occasional roadcut-stopper. It is a field guide, not a map of record.

What you can do

  • Inspect a place and read geology, field expectations, confidence, hazards, fossils, landscape, geologic history, and resources.
  • Walk through deep time with the International Chronostratigraphic Chart and paleogeographic context.
  • Identify a rock cautiously using media and mapped geologic context.
  • Keep a field notebook with saved places, rock observations, strike and dip, samples, sketches, and traverses.

What this is not

Bedrock is not a geologic map of record, hazard assessment, permit guide, or rockhounding access tool. Verify at the outcrop, check regulations, and watch the sky.
